The goal for this Porsche 964 Carrera 2 build was to capture the essence of Porsche’s most evolutionary classic 911 while elevating its dynamics, feel, and engagement for regular driving and spirited use.
Challenges & Considerations
- Maintaining classic balance: The Carrera 2’s original engineering is beloved for its purity and simplicity. Enhancements needed to preserve that balance rather than overwhelm it.
- Improving performance feel: 250 HP and circa-5.6 s 0–60 mph is respectable for its era, but modern tuning can refine torque delivery, throttle response, and gearing for today’s roads.
- Sharper dynamics without harshness: The 964’s suspension and steering were a major technological leap in ’90s 911s, but many benefit from thoughtful refinement to match modern driver expectations.
Project Scope & Services
- Chassis & Suspension: RS-inspired suspension and kinematics update with harder Shore-rated rubber bushings and custom KW V3 coilovers. Delivers sharper turn-in and stability than a factory 964 RS — while retaining power steering and superior ride comfort.
- Engine & Management: 4.0 L air-cooled flat-six producing approx. 370 HP / 410 Nm, managed by a fully tuned ECUMaster EMU for linear power delivery, crisp throttle response, and modern reliability.
- Transmission: Gear ratios shortened by approx. 12% in gears 1–4, with a long 5th gear retained for relaxed high-speed cruising and touring usability.
- Weight Optimization: Approx. 100 kg of weight reduction, largely invisible, improving agility and braking without compromising comfort or originality.
- Wheels, Tires & Lighting: 18-inch Cargraphic period-correct racing wheels with modern UHP summer tires, complemented by discreet LED projector headlights for improved night driving.
- Interior & Comfort: New interior (upcoming), overhauled air-conditioning system with optional electric A/C compressor for a cleaner engine bay, and an integrated 8-speaker DSP HiFi system.
