Porsche® 930 | Turbo 3.3L "OEM Plus" Restoration

Customer needs
Our client harbored a profound desire for an old-school 911 (930) Turbo, yet one subtly enhanced with numerous technical improvements. Their vision included a power boost to approximately 380 HP, necessitating adjustments to the turbocharger, intercooler, and a full engine revision. Crucially, the vehicle needed to be more drivable and, surprisingly, more economical. A specific wish for a custom color and interior underscored their personal connection to the project. The ultimate goal was a complete rebuild on a rust-free chassis, with every technical aspect thoroughly revised, all within a budget of €220,000.

Our proposal
Our solution centered on an 1984 3.3 Turbo, a model already benefiting from significant technical advancements for its era. This particular year offered a more economical operation and superior handling compared to its predecessors. While a G50 gearbox from the '89 model year would have been ideal, it was financially out of reach for this base. The core of our proposal involved an engine tuning to achieve around 400 HP, focusing on improved responsiveness in the lower and mid-range RPMs. This performance kit encompassed high-flow headers, a custom exhaust, SC camshafts, an upgraded turbo, a more efficient intercooler, and various smaller components. To complement the power, a modern KW coilover suspension, meticulously tuned by a chassis engineer, was integrated. Further enhancements included a contemporary electric air conditioning system and other bespoke amenities. The culmination of these modifications would see the car shed approximately 70 kg, resulting in a more refined and modern driving experience.
Advantages of the 930 Turbo Series for Customers
The 930 Turbo stands as THE quintessential classic 911, often imitated but never truly replicated. These vehicles typically boast excellent structural integrity, often due to their status as cherished fair-weather cars. Through continuous development, later models proved more efficient and enjoyable to drive than the original 3.0L Turbo. Compared to its successor, the 930 Turbo offers a lighter, more visceral driving experience, appealing to those who appreciate a raw, unfiltered connection to the road.
Disadvantages of the 930 Turbo
Despite its iconic status, the 930 Turbo comes with its own set of considerations. It is, in every aspect, a very expensive car to acquire and maintain. Its unique driving characteristics demand an experienced pilot with a steady hand and character, as it is not a vehicle for the faint of heart. Furthermore, its long production run means that while many exist, finding one in pristine condition requires diligent searching.
